Matthew Fleeger is the President and CEO of Gulf Coast Western, an oil and gas company that aims at developing gas and oil in reserves. It primarily focuses on the Gulf Coast region of the United States. He was born into the oil and gas dealings; his father having founded the Gulf Coast Western, starting as a small family business. Fleeger joined the company in 1986 and worked beside his father, enabling him to be acquainted with the oil industry. The company has since built its name by establishing relations with clients that developed into strategic partnerships. The success is also attributed to the emphasis on teamwork between the management and the employees.
Apart from being a reputable and a hard-working businessman, Matthew Fleeger often seeks to promote the welfare of others, particularly by making donations intended for good causes in the society. He backed the partnership between Gulf Coast Western and the Sadie Keller Foundation, founded by a thirteen-year-old girl, Sadie Keller, who is a cancer survivor, by donating to fund the annual projects of the foundation. Having survived cancer himself, he is emphatic since he understands the spiritual and psychological bearing cancer can have on individuals. The project specifically buys toys and distributes them to children and teenagers fighting cancer in the hospital. The employees are also involved in this cause as they split into small teams to choose a variety of toys, headphones, action figures, bicycles, and dolls from one shop to the other. The donations are then presented to Sadie and her foundation at the employee Christmas party. Giving back to the community is one of the underlying values of the company, according to Fleeger. Sadie’s mother, Sarah Keller, says that the toys are a form of emotional support that allows kids fighting cancer to be kids still.
Moreover, Fleeger and his company regularly give donations to Smile Train; an international children’s charity that offers free repair surgery to children born with cleft lip and palate, Children’s Medical Centre, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Shriners Hospitals, and North Texas Food Bank, a Texas-based organization that helps in feeding needy families.
